It is related to a Biological instinct of caring and nurturing aspects. As there are other animals that display such behaviors. Those species that dwell in Chilly climates have thicke r bodies. [Canada, Alaska, Iceland, Europe, etc.] Eating and reproduction are some of the core instincts.

For women their bodies store calories, nutrients for sustaining through pregnancy, and years of breastfeeding. After the first pregnancy, the female body can try to hold on to these reserves. This can represent fertility to others.
