In early 1987, after years of uncontrollable weight gain and bed rest following a hospital visit caused her to become immobile, she weighed in at her peak of 1200 poundslb (544 kg). She attempted suicide by swallowing painkillers, but due to her size the drug failed to kill her.
Soon afterward, she attracted the attention of Richard Simmons, who sent her an exercise and eating plan. She eventually got down to 285 pounds lb (129 kg) for a total weight loss of 915 poundslb (415 kg).
She died in 2006. She held a second Guinness Record for '''Most Weight Lost By A Woman''', until surpassed by [[Mayra Rosales]] in 2013.
